History and Strategy

Amos Reid in Theodore, Alabama founded Reid Industrial Supply Company, Inc. in 1981.

From the company's inception, Reid Industrial Supply has focused its efforts in the area of cutting tools and abrasives, striving to become known as an application oriented distributor.

In recent years in order to adapt to a changing market, Reid Industrial Supply has added many MRO (maintenance, repair and operating) items to its inventory. These additional products allow Reid Industrial Supply to offer more items to existing customers while aggressively pursuing the integrated supply market by providing a larger product selection to customers desiring to reduce their vendor base.

The addition of MRO inventory does not change the original company focus. Reid Industrial Supply will continue to target its marketing efforts and devote the majority of its resources to develop a leadership position in the tooling and abrasives market within the company's geographic coverage area.

In 1992, Reid Industrial Supply opened a stocking warehouse in Chula Vista, California, outside San Diego. This warehouse facility is positioned to support JIT contracts currently in place with an aircraft customer in Southern California and serves as a back-up warehouse for the Alabama location.
